The Mechanics of a Floating Serve

Unlike a spin serve, a float serve does not rotate. This lack of rotation makes the ball susceptible to aerodynamic currents, causing it to drop or drift unpredictably near the receiver.

Technical Focus:

• High Solid Contact: Keep your hand open and rigid. Strike the ball with the solid heel of your palm.
• Hit the Center: Strike directly through the center of gravity of the ball. Do not snap your wrist on contact.
• Abrupt Stop: Freeze your follow-through immediately after contact to prevent adding any topspin.
